Straight answers

Midtown glass questions, answered

Can you replace glass in a 100‑year‑old wood window?

Yes — it is one of the most common jobs we do in these blocks. We take the measurements off the sash, cut the glass, bed and glaze it, and put the sash back so the window still reads as original. You keep the wavy‑glass character elsewhere in the house and lose only the pane that broke.

Do I need City approval before replacing a window in Boulevard Park or Newton Booth?

If the property is in an adopted historic district, exterior changes are reviewed against the district’s design standards through the City’s preservation review process, so check with City preservation staff first. Repairing and re‑glazing the existing sash is the approach those standards favor, and it is usually cheaper than replacement anyway.

My 1990s retrofit windows are fogged. Do I have to replace the whole window?

Almost never. Fog between the panes means the sealed unit has failed, not the frame. We measure the unit, order a matching insulated glass unit and swap it into the existing frame — no stucco, siding or interior casing touched.

Do you handle storefronts and commercial glass downtown?

Yes. Break‑in damage, cracked storefront lites, transoms and office partitions along J, K and 20th streets and through the grid. We make the opening secure first so you can keep trading, then replace the glass with the correct safety‑rated product.
