Straight answers

Curtis Park glass questions, answered

Can you match the glass in an old divided‑lite window?

We cut each lite to the opening it sits in and bed it the way the sash was built to be glazed. Modern float glass is flatter than century‑old glass, so a single replaced pane in a window full of original wavy glass can look slightly different up close — from the street it reads correctly, and we will point out beforehand where you are likely to notice it.

Should I replace my windows or repair them?

On most Curtis Park houses, repair. The sash are old‑growth wood, the profiles are part of what the house is worth, and the historic‑district standards specifically ask for repair over replacement. Most of the heat and draft comes through gaps rather than through the glass. We will tell you honestly if a sash is genuinely too far gone.

Does the Montgomery Way historic district affect what I can do?

If your property contributes to a district, exterior changes are reviewed against its design standards, and vinyl replacements are treated as a loss of character — the nomination for that district names them directly. Talk to City preservation staff before an exterior change; repairing the original sash keeps you on the right side of it.

Do you do the newer Crocker Village homes too?

Yes. Newer construction runs to large dual‑pane units and patio sliders, and the failures there are usually a broken slider panel or a seal that has gone in a sun‑facing room. Same approach: replace the unit, keep the frame.
