Does storefront glass have to be tempered?
Glass in and around doors, sidelites and large low openings generally has to be safety glazing by code, which means tempered or laminated rather than ordinary annealed glass. We will tell you which the opening calls for and quote it that way — putting the wrong glass in a storefront is a liability, not a saving.
Can you reopen a window opening that was blocked up?
The glass side, yes, and the Oak Park district plan actually encourages restoring infilled openings. The framing and structural work sits with your contractor — get us involved early and we will size the glass and give you a real number to build into the budget.
