Land Park glass & windows
Land Park was built when windows were architecture, not a line item. The 1920s and 30s period revivals off Land Park Drive and Riverside carry steel casements, leaded and divided‑lite glass, arched openings and heavy wood sash. The 1940s and 50s stretches toward Sutterville and Freeport lean to ranch houses with wide picture windows, and South Land Park has Eichlers with walls of fixed glass that were never meant to come out easily.
All of it breaks the same way — a ball, a slammed sash, a settled frame, a failed seal — and almost none of it matches a size you can buy off a shelf. Every pane gets measured off the actual opening and cut to fit.

The big front lites are usually the first to go — west‑facing glass takes the worst of the afternoon sun. We replace the sealed unit at the same size and leave the frame and trim alone.

North of Sutterville you are mostly in 1920s to 1940s territory: Tudor Revival, Spanish Eclectic and Colonial Revival homes with steel casements, leaded panels, arched sash and heavy wood double‑hungs. These are the houses where replacing the whole window costs a fortune and looks wrong — and where new glass in the existing sash is both cheaper and better.
South Land Park and the Freeport side run newer: 1950s and 60s ranch houses with wide aluminum‑framed picture windows and sliders, plus the Eichler tract in South Land Park Hills that the City designated as a historic district in 2024. Those homes were built around large single‑lite glass, so a break is a big pane, not a small one — and the size and weight is exactly why people call a glass company instead of a handyman.
Upper Land Park, the blocks between Broadway and the freeway, mixes bungalows and small apartment buildings. We do a lot of landlord work there: turnovers, break‑ins, screens and quick glass swaps between tenants.
The South Land Park Hills Eichler tract became a City historic district in 2024, and Sacramento City College is a designated district too. On any property inside a district, exterior changes get reviewed against the district’s design standards, and those standards ask owners to repair original features before replacing them. For glass that is good news: keeping the frame and replacing the pane is both the approved route and the cheaper one. Check with City preservation staff before an exterior change and we will quote to what is allowed.

Straight answers
Yes. Steel casements take small lites bedded in glazing compound, and they need someone who will clean the rebate out properly rather than smear new putty over old. We measure each lite off the frame, because a century of paint means no two are quite the same.
A new insulated glass unit at the same size and thickness, dropped into the frame you already have. Large picture windows are heavier and need two people and suction cups, but the frame, stucco and interior trim stay untouched. Cleaning or drilling the old unit does not restore the seal, so we do not offer it.
We handle large fixed lites and slider panels, including the oversized single‑pane glass those houses were designed around. Safety‑rated tempered glass is required in a lot of those locations, and we will tell you when the code calls for it rather than quietly putting in annealed glass.
Yes — sunscreens are one of the cheapest ways to take the edge off afternoon heat on Land Park’s west and south elevations, and they protect floors and furniture from fading. We build them to fit and install them at the same visit as glass work where we can.
